Hawaii pt. 2

Typical tourist photo at Pearl Harbor

Typical Japanese one maned suicide torpedo...

Pretty much any direction you look towards the ocean in Hawaii its probably suitable for a Windows desktop background photo.

After a few days on Oahu I went over to Maui to meet a good friend of mine (who apparently is from Hawaii.) The next few days are sort of a blur or snorkeling, foosball, Korean karaoke (yes there is a difference) and diving. I didn't take pictures of any of these things because I'm a slacker.

I did how ever take some photos of this:

This is a loco moco, typical Hawaiian breakfast which consists of:
              1. bed of rice
              2. large hamburger patty
              3. three fried eggs
              4. fried onions
              5. fried mushrooms
              6. side of macaroni salad
              7. slather everything in gravy

Shave ice is also pretty awesome - start with a base of ice cream, cover with shaved ice, sugar syrup, and some sweet cream. Amazing.

The trip wasn't all fun and games though, I did learn some stuff. For example, The state of Hawaii eats more spam per capita  then any other state in the US. They love it so much they even have a "spam jam" in Waikiki every year, complete with a spam parade. I'm not even really sure what that means... But it exists, look it up!

And welcome back to Canada....

Hawaii time, again! pt.1

So it seems that being a student isn't the ball and chain lifestyle that I had previously believed. Apparently you still have full control over your life and can just keep doing what ever the hell you want!

Finding a seat sale for 200 return to Hawaii is a pretty good deal and has pretty good potential for a fun adventure, but it just feels a little too easy. I enjoy putting a few obstacles in the way just to make things interesting... Like flying from a city not in Canada, that's nine hours away.

After hitching a ride with a few great people to Vancouver and then filling my face with cheap sushi it was time to hang out with some chums( + heavy metal dude) from back home.

Flight 2018 was to leave in a couple days to Hawaii from Bellingham WA in a couple days, which left some time to explore the city a bit. Since my bust to Washington was fairly late, the company refunded the ticket leaving my wallet unscathed (finally found an excuse to use that word) from the 900 Km journey.

My couch surfing host turned out to be a couple hours walk from the desolate area where bus terminals usually are. Luckily this bike presented itself to me from the bottom of a creak I was walking by. (The next day I would fill the tires with air and check out town until the tires exploded and I sent it back to the bottom of the creek.)

My couch surfing host was kind enough to drop me off at the airport in the AM. I always find it strange how you can fall asleep for 6 hours on a plane and wake up on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere.

Why is there a city this big in the middle of the ocean?

Stuff

So life had been pretty busy lately, it seems there is always something to do out here!

I decided this year that I was actually going to do something for my birthday. The last couple years I have managed to spend them on a plane or a bus. I rallied some people together and ended up playing capture the flag for the first time since being in grade six.

Midget gangsta Halloween shenanigans!

(Gangsta) Zombie walk shenanigans.

Living in Golden means that I am only an hour and a half from Banff. Most of our class banded together to make it to the film festival last weekend. Besides getting a pile of stickers for my boom box, I managed to get to one of the showings:

Worth it!
COTR students get a season pass at Kicking Horse Mountain(which sadly isn't open yet.) Conveniently the pass works at a few other hills in the area also.
First and second ride of the season Nov 3-4th in Nakiska!

Also, I now carry a boom box around. This video depictes exactly how it has changed my life.
